1.15.08 - Thoroughbreds

I guess Wednesdays are my most productive days! I did two small paintings and worked on a larger piece, which is almost done.

These two thoroughbreds are not painted in my usual style, at least for my horse paintings. Of course it's much smaller than normal (7" x 10") so I couldn't paint the way I usually do. The funny thing is, I usually do a drawing in preparation of a painting. This painting I did in preperation of a drawing!

Great study! Love how you are using more and more of the "untraditional" color combinations for shadows and highlights.
These quick studies are absolutely great! This past summer I tried to do a series of very quick "biomorphs" to just loosen up. And, omg, it was a great exercise. It's like your mind doesn't have enough time to get scared and you get the freedom to experiment with color and shapes. Loved it!

I like the "untraditional" color combinations, too! I also like the 2 horses together - somehow it becomes more dynamic, makes me wonder about their relationship.

Brad and Yogi were great friends. Yogi was a little neurotic, really he just needed more work, Brad was able to help him chill out some.
